Why Jesus / Week 5

#bloomchurch #whyJesus #youmatter

Feb 24, 2016

When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. Isaiah 43:2

THERE IS INCREDIBLE POWER THAT COMES FROM FACING IMPOSSIBLE PAIN.

There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off. Proverbs 23:18 NIV

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.  Hebrews 6:19 NIV

“What oxygen is to the lungs, hope is to our survival in the world.” -Billy Graham

HOPE IS A CONFIDENT EXPECTATION, A JOYFUL ANTICIPATION, AND AN ACTIVE ENERGIZING ENTHUSIASM.

(The Anchor) It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever. Hebrews 6:19-20

1. HOPE HAS A ROPE

THE CONNECTION IS JUST AS VITAL AS THE ANCHOR ITSELF

I am telling you these things now while I am still with you. But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. John 14:25-27

But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. John 16:7

OUR ADVOCATE, OUR CONNECTION, OUR ROPE IS THE HOLY SPIRIT

2. TO BE EFFECTIVE THE ROPE HAS TO BE TIGHT

Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. Galatians 5:25

TAKE HOME

When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation. Proverbs 10:25

  • ILLUMINATE YOUR HEART WITH TRUTH

I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalms 27:13-14 NKJV

  • ASSEMBLE WITH GOD’S PEOPLE

Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish in the courts of our God. Psalms 97:13 NKJV

For your heart will always be where your riches are. Luke 12:34

But I will rejoice even if I lose my life, pouring it out like a liquid offering to God,just like your faithful service is an offering to God. And I want all of you to share that joy. Philippians 2:17

THERE IS POWER IN THE EXCHANGE! WHEN WE SHIFT OUR PREFERENCES TO WORSHIP AND WHEN WE SHIFT OUR PRIORITIES TO HIS KINGDOM.

  • CUE THE EAGLE

Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:30-31

My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. Psalms 73:26

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. Romans 8:26

Jan 21, 2016

Work brings profit, but mere talk leads to poverty! Proverbs 14:23

IF YOU DON’T MAKE IT A PRIORITY IT WILL NEVER BE A REALITY

I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. Philippians 3:12

Anybody can have a desire but growth doesn't happen until that desire shifts into discipline.

And you must love the Lord your God with ALL your heart, ALL your soul, ALL your mind, and ALL your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Mark 12:30-31

“If you love your father or mother more than you love me, you are not worthy of being mine; or if you love your son or daughter more than me, you are not worthy of being mine.  If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine.  If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.” Matthew 10:37-39

The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10

When you are intimately connected with someone you have a deep desire to do what they love.

1. DO I DESIRE TO SPEND TIME WITH GOD?

Offer yourselves as a living sacrifice to God, dedicated to his service and pleasing to him. This is the true worship that you should offer.  Romans 12:1 GNT

“Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.” Mark 1:35

“After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.” Matthew 14:23

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. Matthew 6:33

2. DO I HUNGER TO READ GODS WORD?

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you—they are full of the Spirit and life.” John 6:63

Faith happens and your heart changes when we read not out of obligation but out of expectation.

3. DO I HAVE A HEART FOR OTHERS

“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.” 1 John 4:8-9

  • It is easy to justify not loving others...
  • Gods love is for everyone
  • Gods love is made visible through action

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1 John 4:10

TAKE HOME

Intimacy is a result of consistency

  • WAKE UP EARLIER

  • PICK A READING PLAN

  • INTENTIONALLY BE OUTWARD FOCUSED

  • START SERVING

  • START DOING RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS

  • START INVITING

“Let our prayer be that when we stand before God one day that we won't have one ounce of talent, creativity, or energy left, simply because we gave God everything we had…”

Dec 15, 2015

By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen. Hebrews 11:3

So the lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one. He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. Genesis 2:19-20

  1. OUR WORDS ARE FORMED BY OUR THOUGHTS

…What you say flows from what is in your heart. Luke 6:45

The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences. Proverbs 18:21

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23

2. OUR WORDS WILL IMPACT OUR PURPOSE

WE MUST STOP SPEAKING NEGATIVITY INTO A LIFE THAT IS FILLED WITH POSSIBILITIES.

Zechariah and Elizabeth were righteous in God’s eyes, careful to obey all of the Lord’s commandments and regulations. They had no children because Elizabeth was unable to conceive, and they were both very old; While Zechariah was in the sanctuary, an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing to the right of the incense altar. Zechariah was shaken and overwhelmed with fear when he saw him. But the angel said, “Don’t be afraid, Zechariah! God has heard your prayer. Your wife, Elizabeth, will give you a son, and you are to name him John. You will have great joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth, for he will be great in the eyes of the Lord.He will be a man with the spirit and power of Elijah. He will prepare the people for the coming of the Lord. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and he will cause those who are rebellious to accept the wisdom of the godly.” Zechariah said to the angel, “How can I be sure this will happen? I’m an old man now, and my wife is also well along in years.” Then the angel said, “I am Gabriel! I stand in the very presence of God. It was he who sent me to bring you this good news! But now, since you didn’t believe what I said, you will be silent and unable to speak until the child is born. For my words will certainly be fulfilled at the proper time.” Luke 1:6-7;11-20

WHAT YOU CONTINUE TO SPEAK IN YOUR LIFE YOU WILL EVENTUALLY LIVE IN YOUR LIFE.

3. OUR WORDS WHEN SHIFTED TO PRAISE WILL PUSH THROUGH ANY CIRCUMSTANCE

Gabriel appeared to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!” Confused and disturbed, Mary tried to think what the angel could mean. “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favor with God! You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!” Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin; For nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:28-34;37

Mary responded, “Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed. For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me.  Luke 1:46-49

WORSHIP SEES BEYOND YOUR CURRENT REALITY AND INTO GODS DESTINY

Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God. Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy, for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now. And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. Philippians 1:3-6

TAKE HOME

  • PLACE YOURSELF IN POSITIVE ENVIRONMENTS

My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to my words. Don’t lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body. Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:20-23

  • SPEAK LIFE GIVING WORDS TO OTHERS

Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them. Ephesians 4:29

  • SPEAK POSITIVELY ABOUT OURSELVES

…Let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:2

Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed? Luke 9:23-25

OUR TIME INVESTED IN OTHERS IS THE GREATEST COMMODITY BECAUSE TIME IS THE ONLY THING YOU CANNOT GET BACK WHEN IT’S GONE.

…A person with a changed heart seeks praise from God, not from people. Romans 2:29

When we serve others we start physically and spiritually connecting here on earth with what our souls will do for all eternity.

Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that his hour had come to leave this world and return to his Father. He had loved his disciples during his ministry on earth, and now he loved them to the very end. Jesus knew that the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God. So he got up from the table, took off his robe, wrapped a towel around his waist, and poured water into a basin. Then he began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel he had around him. When Jesus came to Simon Peter, Peter said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?” Jesus replied, “You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.”; After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing? You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and you are right, because that’s what I am. And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other’s feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you. I tell you the truth, slaves are not greater than their master. Nor is the messenger more important than the one who sends the message. Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them. John 13:1;3-7;12-17

THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE AND APPLICATION

THE HEART OF SERVING

1. SERVING STARTS WITH ME

Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity. 1 Timothy 4:12

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 1 Peter 4:10

2. SERVING STARTS WITH BEING FAITHFUL WITH THE SECRET OPPORTUNITIES

“You can map out a fight plan or a life plan. But when the action starts, you’re down to your reflexes.  Thats where your road work shows.  If you cheated on that in the dark morning, you’re getting found out now under the bright lights.” Joe Frazier

WHAT WE DO IN THE PRIVATE TIMES IMPACTS HOW WE WILL BE IN OUR PUBLIC TIMES

For the lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes. Proverbs 5:21

“Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. Matthew 6:1;3-4

3. SERVING STARTS WITH THE INSIGNIFICANT AREAS EVERYONE ELSE IGNORES.

If you think you are too important to help someone, you are only fooling yourself. You are not that important. Galatians 6:3

Unless you are faithful in small matters, you won’t be faithful in large ones. If you cheat even a little, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities. Luke 16:10

Great opportunities often disguise themselves in small tasks.

And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.” Matthew 10:42

4. SERVING STARTS WITH THE UNDERSTANDING IT’S THE MISSION OF JESUS

This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:12-13

A love that goes beyond self and is willing to serve the interest of others CANNOT BE IGNORED BY the world

Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. John 13:35

TAKE HOME- OUR COMMITMENT

You must each decide in your heart how much to give…. 2 Corinthians 9:7

  • I will intentionally share my resources.

BLOOMHERE.ORG/KINDNESS

  • I will intentionally share my time.

  • I will intentionally share my Jesus.

Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Ephesians 5:16

Nov 10, 2015

NOTES:

THE GENEROUS LIFE LEADS TO A BLESSED LIFE

You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35

The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25

THERE IS NOTHING MORE CHRISTLIKE THAN TO SELFLESSLY GIVE

3 MINDSETS THAT DEFINE A GENEROUS HEART

1. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH

You have planted much but harvest little. You eat but are not satisfied. You drink but are still thirsty. You put on clothes but cannot keep warm. Your wages disappear as though you were putting them in pockets filled with holes! Haggai 1:6

But Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son. For this is what the lord, the God of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the lord sends rain and the crops grow again!” 1 Kings 17:13-14

Then the woman told Elijah, “Now I know for sure that you are a man of God, and that the lord truly speaks through you.” 1 Kings 17:24

Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength. Philippians 4:11-13

2. THERE IS MORE THAN ENOUGH

Your children and your crops will be blessed. The offspring of your herds and flocks will be blessed. Your fruit baskets and breadboards will be blessed. Wherever you go and whatever you do, you will be blessed. Deuteronomy 28:4-6

Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” Luke 6:38

3. THERE IS INFINITELY MORE THAN ENOUGH

“The lord will guarantee a blessing on everything you do and will fill your storehouses with grain. Deuteronomy 28:8

And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. As the Scriptures say, “They share freely and give generously to the poor. Their good deeds will be remembered forever.” For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you. Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. 2 Corinthians 9:8-11

TAKE HOME

  • GIVE JOYFULLY

…the godly love to give! Proverbs 21:26

And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” 2 Corinthians 9:7

  • GIVE INTENTIONALLY

You must each decide in your heart how much to give. 2 Corinthians 9:7

  • GIVE EXPECTING

YOU CAN’T OUT GIVE GOD!

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test! Malachi 3:10

Nov 3, 2015

We are concluding our series YOU ASKED FOR IT.

This week we are discussing on sharing our faith.

What does living a life sharing the Gospel look like?

Am I involved in doing this?

How do we share our faith?

Diving into the Word of God Pastor Mike takes us down this road as we journey into this tough topic.
