(JESUS) DESCENDED INTO HELL

"For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ. So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless." 1 Corinthians 15:56-58

BE STRONG AND IMMOVABLE

WORK ENTHUSIASTICALLY FOR THE LORD

"Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was. We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. When he died, he died once to break the power of sin. But now that he lives, he lives for the glory of God. So you also should consider yourselves to be dead to the power of sin and alive to God through Christ Jesus. Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God." Romans 6:1-13

WE ARE ETERNAL BEINGS WHICH MEANS ONLY THE ETERNAL WILL GIVE US FULFILLMENT!

"For His Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. And since we are His children, we are His heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share His glory, we must also share his suffering. Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory He will reveal to us later." Romans 8:16-18

“GOD USES TEMPORAL STRUGGLES TO FORGE ETERNAL BEAUTY” -Addison Bevere

“Then He said, 'I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.'” Matthew 18:3

“There was a man named Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader who was a Pharisee. After dark one evening, he came to speak with Jesus. 'Rabbi,' he said, 'we all know that God has sent you to teach us. Your miraculous signs are evidence that God is with you.' Jesus replied, 'I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” “What do you mean?' exclaimed Nicodemus. 'How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?' Jesus replied, 'I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.' 'How are these things possible?' Nicodemus asked.” John 3:1-9

"Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." Romans 12:2

1. BEFORE YOU CAN CHANGE YOU HAVE TO WANT CHANGE

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Psalms 139:23-24

2. GET YOUR PERSPECTIVE ALIGNED WITH GROWTH OVER COMPLAINTS

"Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy." James 1:2

3. TESTINGS PRODUCE CHARACTER; WHILE COMPLACENCY PRODUCES COMPROMISE

4. BE ALL IN

"Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God." Romans 6:13

(JESUS) SUFFERED UNDER PONTIUS PILATE WAS CRUCIFIED, DEAD, AND BURIED

JESUS DID NOT MERELY DIE FOR US; HE ALSO SUFFERED FOR US.

 - We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us… 1 John 3:16

JESUS THE SUFFERING SERVANT

1. GOD’S PROMISE OF THE SERVANT

 - “See, my servant will prosper; he will be highly exalted.” Isaiah 52:13

 - “For all of God’s promises find their 'yes' of fulfillment in Christ. And as his 'yes' and our 'amen' ascend to God, we bring him glory!” 2 Corinthians 1:20

2. THE MISSION OF THE SERVANT

 - “Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed.” Isaiah 53:4-5

 - “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV

JESUS CAME FOR MY SAKE, TO TAKE MY SIN, TO MAKE ME RIGHTEOUS ALL THROUGH HIS SUFFERING!

3. THE INNOCENCE OF THE SERVANT

 - “He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave.” Isaiah 53:7,9

 - "Jesus said, 'Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.'” Luke 23:34

4. THE SACRIFICE OF THE SERVANT

 - "But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants…" Isaiah 53:10

 - “He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.” Philippians 2:8

 - "With his own blood—not the blood of goats and calves—he entered the Most Holy Place once for all time and secured our redemption forever." Hebrews 9:12

5. VINDICATION THROUGH THE SERVANTS SUFFERING

 - “When he sees all that is accomplished by his anguish, he will be satisfied. And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear all their sins. I will give him the honors of a victorious soldier, because he exposed himself to death. He was counted among the rebels. He bore the sins of many and interceded for rebels.” Isaiah 53:11-12

DECLARATION: BECAUSE JESUS GAVE ME HIS EVERYTHING I WILL GIVE ALL OF ME!

“Since we are his children, we are his heirs. In fact, together with Christ we are heirs of God’s glory. But if we are to share his glory, we must also share his suffering. Romans 8:17-18

Feb 3, 2020

“You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it.” Matthew 7:13-14

“Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.” Matthew 16:24

“The world would love you as one of its own if you belonged to it, but you are no longer part of the world. I chose you to come out of the world, so it hates you.” John 15:19

“At this point many of his disciples turned away and deserted him. Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked, “Are you also going to leave?” Simon Peter replied, “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life. We believe, and we know you are the Holy One of God. ” John 6:66-69

1. JESUS THE CHRIST

“When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon...”Matthew 16:13-17 NKJV

“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” Revelation 3:15-16

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation...for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth... and he holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body… For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.” Colossians 1:15-20 NLT

• JESUS THE CHRIST PERFECTLY REVEALS GOD

• JESUS THE CHRIST IS SUPREME.

“Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11

JESUS THE CHRIST LEADS THE CHURCH AND REDEEMS THE BODY.

“Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

2. JESUS GOD'S ONLY SON

“For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.” John 3:17

“Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people. Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.” Hebrews 2:14, 17-18

“So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of oursunderstands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:14-16

3. JESUS OUR LORD

TAKE HOME

• I WILL SURRENDER MY LIFE TO THE LORD OF MY LIFE

My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10

• I UNDERSTAND THAT MY PERSONAL FAITH CONFESSION IS A COMMITMENT TO THE COMMUNITY OF FAITH.

• I WILL LIVE THE MISSION OF MY LORD

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God! 2 Corinthians 5:17-20
