People Fuel – Week 5

“…Since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the other.” Romans 12:5 NLT

QUADRANT 1: BE PRESENT

TRUE, DEEP RELATIONSHIPS ARE BUILT ON THE FOUNDATION OF TRUST

QUADRANT 2: CONVEY THE GOOD

AFFIRMATION

ENCOURAGEMENT

RESPECT

HOPE

FORGIVENESS

CELEBRATION

“Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:23

QUADRANT 3: PROVIDE REALITY

WITHOUT QUADRANTS 1 AND 2, QUADRANT 3 DOESN’T HAVE A LEG TO STAND ON

CLARIFICATION

CLARIFICATION: HELPING A PERSON THINK CLEARLY ENOUGH TO SEE AN ANSWER.

So quickly my dude just fires back:

Have you ever wished you HAD more clarity…? This guy does: 10 min later she texts back and says:

“As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to Him and fell on his knees before him. “Good teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?” “Why do you call me good? ” Mark 10:17-18 NIV

“Jesus answered. “No one is good except for God alone” Mark 10:18 NIV

PERSPECTIVE

INSIGHT

INSIGHT: CONVEY A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING

“Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water. I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14

FEEDBACK

FEEDBACK ISN’T A BAD THING

“Let a righteous man strike me – that is a kindness; let him rebuke me – that is oil on my head” Psalms 141:5

CONFRONTATION

CONFRONTATION: FACING ANOTHER PERSON WITH A REALITY ALONGSIDE AN APPEAL AND WARNING TO CHANGE

FEEDBACK CAN OFFER AFFIRMATION AND POSITIVITY OR IT CAN BE A CHALLENGE AND BE NEGATIVE

CONFRONTATION IS ALWAYS CORRECTIVE

“Jesus returned to the Mount of Olives, but early the next morning he was back again at the Temple. A crowd soon gathered, and he sat down and taught them. As he was speaking, the teachers of religious law and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in the act of adultery. They put her in front of the crowd. “Teacher,” they said to Jesus, “this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?”

“…Jesus stooped down and wrote in the dust with his finger. They kept demanding an answer, so he stood up again and said, “All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!”

“Then he stooped down again and wrote in the dust. When the accusers heard this they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?” No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.” John 8:8-11

“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” John 10:10

“…I am the way , the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

“…Since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others.” Romans 12:5 NLT

Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross daily, and follow me. Luke 9:23

The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25 NLT

THE NUTRIENTS LIST

QUADRANT 2: CONVEY THE GOOD

Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. Proverbs 16:24 NIV

AFFIRMATION

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Hebrews 10:24

When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased. Luke 3:21-22 NIV

So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children. Romans 8:15-16

ENCOURAGEMENT

It’s as simple as this: the cure for discouragement is encouragement.” -Dr. John Townsend

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 NLT

RESPECT

Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor. 1 Peter 2:17 NIV

“Men are developed the same way gold is mined. Several tons of dirt must be moved to get an ounce of gold; but you don’t go into the mine looking for dirt. You go in looking for gold.” -Andrew Carnegie

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” Matthew 9:36-38 NLT

HOPE

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.  Jeremiah 29:11 NLT

FORGIVENESS

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. Ephesians 4:31-32 NLT

CELEBRATION

Rejoice with those who rejoice… Romans 12:15 NIV

In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away! Luke 15:7 NLT

Aug 15, 2021

“…Since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others.” Romans 12:5 NLT

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone”. Genesis 2:18 NLT

FUNCTIONAL NEEDS

RELATIONAL NEEDS

OBSTACLES TO ASKING FOR HELP

  • FEELING WEAK

Pride leads to destruction, and arrogance to downfall. Proverbs 16:18 GNT

  • FEELING SELFISH

  • TRUST ISSUES

  • SHAME

  • NOT FEELING DESERVING

  • THE LEADER’S DILEMMA

They triumphed over him (devil) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. Revelation 12:11 NIV

  • MISUNDERSTANDING OF THE BIBLE

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NLT

He (Jesus) told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” Matthew 26:38 NLT

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. 1 Peter 4:10 NLT

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. James 5:16 NLT

Then Jesus told this story: “A man planted a fig tree in his garden and came again and again to see if there was any fruit on it, but he was always disappointed. Finally, he said to his gardener, ‘I’ve waited three years, and there hasn’t been a single fig! Cut it down. It’s just taking up space in the garden.’ “The gardener answered, ‘Sir, give it one more chance. Leave it another year, and I’ll give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer. If we get figs next year, fine. If not, then you can cut it down.’” Luke 13:6-9 NLT

THE FRUIT OF OUR LIVES

1. PERSONAL

  • BEHAVIORS

  • THOUGHTS

  • VALUES

  • EMOTIONS

2.  PEOPLE

QUALITY ONE: VULNERABILITY

“The Capacity to be vulnerable allows us to truly know each other, to support each other, and to be a source of life and energy for each other. People who do not have several vulnerable relationships often struggle with isolation, energy problems, and self-doubt.” Dr. John Townsend

QUALITY TWO: THE CAPACITY TO SOLVE RELATIONAL PROBLEMS

3. PERFORMANCE

TRUNK OF CHARACTER

We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. Romans 5:3-4 NLT

ASPECT ONE: BONDING

ASPECT TWO: BOUNDARIES

ASPECT THREE: REALITY

ASPECT FOUR: CAPABILITY

Aug 8, 2021

“…Since we are all one body in Christ, we belong to each other, and each of us needs all the others.” Romans 12:5 NLT

My servant grew up in the Lord’s presence like a tender green shoot, like a root in dry ground. There was nothing beautiful or majestic about his appearance, nothing to attract us to him. He was despised and rejected—a man of sorrows, acquainted with deepest grief. We turned our backs on him and looked the other way. He was despised, and we did not care. Isaiah 53:2-3 NLT

“Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seed. As he scattered it across his field, some of the seed fell on a footpath, and the birds came and ate it. Other seed fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seed sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow. But the plant soon wilted under the hot sun, and since it didn’t have deep roots, it died. Other seed fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants so they produced no grain. Still other seeds fell on fertile soil, and they sprouted, grew, and produced a crop that was thirty, sixty, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” Then he said, “Anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.” Mark 4:3-9 NLT

  • THOSE WITH NO DEPTH
  • THOSE THAT ARE EMOTIONALLY DRIVEN
  • THOSE THAT JUST WANT A SOLUTION TO THEIR PROBLEM
  • THOSE THAT FLOURISH

WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS IN SOIL OF FLOURISHING GROWTH?

1. GRACE

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 5:1-2,21 NLT

But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. 1 John 4:8-10 NLT

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14 NKJV

2. TRUTH

“Truth informs, educates, enlightens, corrects, and confronts us.” - Dr. John Townsend

3. TIME

Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalms 90:12 NIV

GROWTH IS NOT INSTANTANEOUS, BUT A PROCESS

So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9 NLT

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock. Isaiah 26:3-4

Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do. James 1:6-8
